What Is Love?

1 Corinthians 13 tells us Love is Patient, kind, does not envy, does not boast, is not proud, is not rude, is not self -seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrong, does not delight in evil, rejoices with the truth, always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, never fails.
Galatians 5:22 tells us But the fruit of the Spirit is love…
Love is the One fruit of the Spirit…the others flow from Love…joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
I. God is Love 1 John 4:8
II. Choosing Love
1 Thessalonians 5:8 (Let us) choose to love...
even if there are other options in front of us. We could get mad or runaway. Choose love and grow in it. Make it a way of life.
2 Timothy 2:22 teaches us to flee from evil desires and lust and to pursue love.
Chase the things that are good and right.
III. Faith works through Love.
*Galatians 5:6b Sometimes we think we need more faith when the bible says it flows from love. There is a gift of wonder working faith. That’s different than a lifestyle (fruit) of faith. Wonder working faith is a gift form Holy Spirit for others' sake.
1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow the way of love if you want the gifts to function properly.

I. God is Love 1 John 4:8
- When reading 1 Corinthians 13, read it out loud and replace the word love with God. Let that sink in.
- God is kind, God does not envy, God does not think evil, etc…
- God so loved the world He gave. John 3:16
- Love gives. God gives. Love flows out. Giving is flowing out, not taking in. Love can be felt. Love is a choice. It’s both.
II. Choosing Love

- Pursue love by pondering on it, meditating on it.
- Ask for Love!
- Believe God wants you to know His love and have it.
- Convince yourself the best you can and invite Holy Spirit to
- Sow love into others expecting to reap the increase of love from
- Ask The Lord to help you recognize when someone else is demonstrating love towards you.
III. Faith works through Love.

- Discernment is tainted without love. Without knowing God loves you, it's hard to be confident in what
- Speaking truth in love is sharing with the right motive.
- It is not to injure others or validate others. It is not to call out someone's weaknesses.
- We are to speak truth out of a heart of love that desires healing and restoration.
- Generally it’s a private heart-felt conversation.
